Descartes launches AI agent for global trade
Descartes Systems Group has embedded a conversational AI agent into its Datamyne trade intelligence platform, enabling users to query global shipment data

Descartes Systems Group has launched an AI agent integrated into its Datamyne global trade intelligence platform to streamline trade data research. The Descartes Datamyne AI Agent allows users to search and analyze global trade data using natural-language questions, returning contextual answers in seconds.
How the AI agent transforms trade data interaction
The agent enables users to ask complex trade questions in natural language and receive contextual answers, visualizations, and access to underlying shipment records without building filters or learning query structures. Users can ask questions about suppliers, buyers, commodities, shipment activity, and trade relationships. The tool reduces manual work by eliminating the need to build database filters or learn specific query structures. Users can explore insights by refining questions and investigating related companies, commodities, shipments and trade relationships.
Verified insights and time savings for supply chain teams
The AI agent reduces research time by up to 90% by delivering decision-ready summaries with supporting data, visualizations, and drill-down access to shipment records. This allows users to validate findings and refine queries in real time. The time-reduction figure depends on user experience and query complexity. The agent improves supply chain planning with summaries that highlight notable trends, anomalies, sourcing opportunities and other patterns across large volumes of trade records. It avoids reliance on company descriptions, self-reported supplier profiles, or general web content. Ken Wood, executive vice president of product management at Descartes, stated: "The Agent analyzes shipment-level data and presents findings alongside the records and visual evidence supporting them."
Strategic value in handling volatile global trade
The tool helps users identify suppliers, monitor competitors, evaluate trade risks, understand shifting market demands, and make informed decisions amid geopolitical disruption and tariff volatility. It analyzes actual shipment-level data across 230 markets. Brian Hodgson stated that geopolitical disruption, tariff volatility and shifting sourcing patterns are making trade decisions more complex and time-sensitive. The integration gives freight and logistics technology users a way to interact with specialized shipment data through natural-language queries while accessing underlying trade records. Descartes Datamyne adds more than 500 million shipment records annually.
Part of Descartes’ broader AI integration strategy
The launch reflects Descartes’ ongoing effort to embed AI into its logistics software. This follows recent AI-powered document management and free trade intelligence tools. The approach aligns with industry trends of integrating AI into proprietary data platforms rather than offering standalone chatbots. Descartes said the next phase of transportation technology adoption will depend in part on companies’ ability to scale automation and artificial intelligence. Wood said AI is most useful when it combines trusted, domain-specific data with a clear connection to the decisions customers need to make. The agent allows users to refine questions and investigate related companies, commodities, shipments, and trade relationships without leaving the Datamyne platform.
